The J. Byrne Agency has been in the insurance business here in Cape May County since 1946. Over the years, we have grown in this area from a small agency working with a limited number of local businesses to a substantial firm handling every type of personal and commercial insurance. John J. Byrne founded our firm in 1946, then called Sparks and Byrne. He entered the agency business after a long and successful career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Several years later, Sparks and Byrne split, and the firm became known as John J. Byrne Insurance. He built a solid foundation for the firm.
James A. Byrne, CPCU President, entered the firm in 1958. A new corporation was formed—the J. Byrne Agency, Inc. James Byrne has been an active leader in business and community organizations for three decades. He has served as President of the County Agents Association and the Independent Agents of New Jersey. Jim holds his CPCU (Charter Property & Casualty Underwriter) designation, one of the highest levels of distinction an insurance professional can achieve.
In 1982, Thomas P. Byrne and Timothy Byrne Sr. joined the agency. Both Tim & Tom went to Rutgers University and then to a graduate program at the College of Insurance. The two brothers continued to expand the agency through organic growth, expansion of specialty industries, territorial expansion, and mergers & acquisitions of additional independent insurance agencies. Recognizing a key need in the marketplace for specialized coastal homeowners’ insurance products, Timothy Byrne Sr. left J. Byrne Agency in 2005 to start Coastal Agents Alliance, a managing general agency offering specialized coastal homeowners insurance products through independent agencies across 5 states. With this change, Thomas Byrne assumed the role of president at J. Byrne Agency and continued to move the company forward.
In 2017, Casey Byrne joined the agency and became president in 2018. Casey graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in management. After college, Casey worked as an underwriter for a managing general agency specializing in coastal catastrophe-exposed property insurance across 9 states in the Mid-Atlantic/northeast regions. Casey continues to reinforce the agency’s values of community, integrity, and a customized insurance and risk management approach for each individual circumstance.
